3/16/2023 0 Comments Strato hidrive freeIt was even a secure connection! After I repeated the command it just synchronized the changed files! Brilliant! But… it did prompt for a user password, so I don’t know how to embed this in a sort of scheduler (I read you can use CRON for this purpose). Log file response: Unknown module 'users' rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1803) I also got an e-mail of my QNAP stating “ xxxx failed: The destination folder path does not exist.” No need to say that I tried a dozen of different writings of different folder names (including ‘\’ ‘\public’ etc etc etc) After a lot of reading on this forum I did manage to perform a SUCCESSFUL sync via the command-line: rsync -av -delete -progress -e ssh /share/MyShare/. Qmultimedia) Replicate now On the last page: Secure login wasn’t selectable (as I read on the forum, this is due to the fact of the very limited SSH capabilities which only supports SSH for ‘admin’, which username was obviously not free any more at the service provider (Strato) Rest of the options didn’t influence the result in any way Immediate response “21:11 - Replicate Now Failed (Check the log for detail)”. Respond Config: Name/ip: Port:873 Username: MyUserName Password: MyPassword Pressing the button, stated a successful connection (although I also noticed that it does not perform a log-in test: is even reports a success when no username nor password is given) Next screen: Destination path: /users/MyUserName (note: was not selectable neither the free space could be retrieved) Local Source was selectable (e.g. Typing in the full path myself (in at least a hundred different ways…) didn’t work. No luck! I could ‘browse’ for the destination folder/share/module. First I tried a test run without SSH security (with the GUI wizard for remote replication). And after some testing I’m quite sure that this is due to some ‘features’ of the QNAP. But I run into trouble quite fast to get it up and running in combination with my QNAP TS-429 Pro Turbo. It also offers rsync! That sounded as a great service to backup my data into the cloud. Next, you can create download links for certain files so other people can download that file via a link (with an user-defined limitation of numbers of downloads and time period). Among which, WebDAV (over https) which makes it *very* easy to access your remote files at high speed when away from your QNAP. But next to that: it offers a *lot* of extra protocols and services (also with support of SSH of secured ports). Fairly rated (€6,50 / 100Gb / month) with a free trial period of three months (at least in The Netherlands). I was attracted by the offer of Strato ( ) which introduced their on-line storage service HiDrive (). For me the service was actually a bit disappointing: - *very* little extra functionality offered by Amazone - Quite expensive (especially if you take data transfer rates into account) - Limited implementation within QNAP I happen to read a cloud-service test in a local magazine (C!T). For this reason I obviously tested the S3 service of amazon which integration is embedded in the GUI of our well beloved QNAP. Dear all, I was looking for an affordable online backup facility with some extra features.
